EuroGamer 2011 Here We Come!

It’s that time of year again when the UK gaming community comes together and experiences four days of gaming bliss!  EuroGamer Expo 2011 is looking bigger and better with a host of developers strutting their stuff, showing off the games and consoles that are set to hit shelves the world over in the next 6 months.

For those of you who don’t know what EuroGamer Expo is, it’s the UK’s biggest gaming event!  This year, it’s estimated that the expo will attract around 40,000 gamers,  starting Thursday, September 22nd and concluding on Sunday, September 25th.  Taking place at London’s Earl’s Court, which is usually used for film premiers and awards shows of all kinds, it’s a chance for the UK gaming community to get hands-on with some of the biggest games and gadgets. Additionally, there is a games industry career fair offering the chance to get some face time with developers, publishers, and other games/technology employers.  There’s something for gamers of all types with pretty much every developer and every game worth noticing being in attendance.

With a packed Autumn and Winter release schedule, there is a lot to look forward to during this year’s expo, so expect to see some of this year’s biggest games at Eurogamer.  In fact there are over 70 playable titles on the show floor, with triple A titles such as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Halo Anniversary, Battlefield 3, and Super Mario 3D Land.  That’s not including the Indie Games arcade, which promises to show off some real gems.  Additionally, gamers will also have the chance to get hands-on with Sony’s Playstation Vita and OnLive!

EuroGamer isn’t just a chance to play games or see the newest hardware; there’s also careers advice for aspiring members of the games industry from programmers to reviewers, as well as developer sessions where companies will present their latest projects. Added to the mix are fan-meets, cosplay events, social events and a whole lot more for gaming aficionados of all shapes and sizes to enjoy.

With so much to see and experience, the four days of EuroGamer promises to be a fantastic event. So, what’s Wanderson75.net looking forward to at this year’s EuroGamer expo?  Well, being the only staff member on this side of the globe, I have a lot to cover this coming weekend.  Read on to see what I’m anxiously awaiting (and possible hints on upcoming articles!):

I’m really looking forward to seeing just how much is on offer at EuroGamer.  Being a UK event hasn’t stopped EuroGamer 2011 from boasting a line-up that could match what was on offer at this year’s E3. There is a lot to see across all the platforms, but if I had to choose one game it would have to be Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Ubisoft really reinvigorated the franchise with Ezio’s story, and it’s going to be great to see just how they wrap it up.  Also, with Desmond’s story looking equally as intriguing, Ubisoft is sure to have another huge hit on their hands.

If I’m honest though, it’s not the games I’m most excited for (although I am raring at the gates to try them out), rather it’s the chance to get hands-on with Sony’s Playstation Vita and to finally see OnLive in action. As a 3DS owner there are also a few games that look interesting, but I’ve already had the pleasure of playing the majority of them when I was IGN’s Podcast100 party.  However, that doesn’t mean that that there won’t be anything new, so I’ll be checking in to see if there are any titles that I’ve missed.

Aside from the games, I’m excited to be getting the chance to speak with Rift developers Trion Worlds (look out for the interview!), talking to some games industry employers, and meeting the other 39,999 fans.  After all, it’s the gaming enthusiasts who make events like these what they are!

There is a lot on offer at EuroGamer, so expect a whole host of hands-on articles, interviews, and pictures of an event that promises to be huge!

What are you looking forward to?
