Summer Of The PlayStation Vita

So you’ve platinum’d Uncharted: Golden Abyss, beat everyone’s score in Lumines: Electronic Sympathy, and near completion of your Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational career. You ask yourself, “Who’s Next?” like Goldberg in the late 90s and early 2000s.  Well here at Wanderson75.net we are looking into the future for what’s to come to the PlayStation Vita. Get your wallets ready and be sure to ask the wife (or husband) if it’s okay, because it’s going to be an awesome summer for Vita owners.

Coming April 17 is a cult favorite that was previously released on the PlayStation 3: Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention. This isn’t just a port from the game that came out years ago, but a remaster for the franchise’s debut into HD handheld gaming. The turn-based strategy RPG will offer all of the released downloadable content from PSN. Also two new characters, more quests and bosses are included to get your RPG-loving self frothing at the mouth.

Mortal Kombat was a huge success for WB Games and Netherrealm Studios last year, and with the power of the Vita, they are bringing it to your hands May 1.  Just like Disgaea: AoD this is a port at heart, but added features will place it in its own league.  You will still be able to challenge friends as they become foes in ad-hoc or WiFi matches.  Kratos makes his appearance in this fighter once again as he did on the PlayStation 3.  The touchscreen will also be put to good use, as match progresses you will have to clean the blood splatter off the screen adding a neat challenge to the gameplay. Also mini-games such as one similar to Fruit Ninja are perfect for short bursts of gaming.

One of Sony’s popular shooting franchises is making its debut on the new Vita; Resistance: Burning Skies drops May 29.  Many fans will be excited for this title as Resistance: Retribution was a fantastic PSP title that really deserved a lot more attention.  The fairly new developer, Nihilistic Software (PlayStation Move’s Heroes), is looking to expand the Resistance universe even more with Burning Skies.  Playing as a new hero, Fireman Tom Riley, you are face-to-face with the Chimera invasion but with the help of touchscreen features.  The first-person shooter genre is one everyone is watching on the Vita with the addition of a second analog stick.

Konami wants to make it the “Year of Silent Hill”, hot on the heels of their console releases, Silent Hill: Downpour and Silent Hill HD Collection, Silent Hill: Book of Memories comes to us on May 31. This is not your typical Silent Hill game, however, as a new team has swung in a different direction with this one.  For one, it’s the first SH to be focusing on co-op multiplayer; yes, finally we can work together to conquer our fears!  You create your own character and try to change the past as you find a book with mysterious powers.  Fear not, fans, as promised classic monsters will revisit to do what they do best – scare us to death.  Also Daniel Licht returns to provide the eerie sounds and music we know and love.

Lego Batman was a surprise hit when it originally released, and finally a sequel has been announced along with a Vita release.  While the concept will always throw a gamer off, as it seems targeted toward the younger audience (and it is) the Lego series is a stellar platform franchise.  Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes looks to build off of the entire DC comics’ universe when it releases June 1.  While details have been kept quiet, it will be interesting to see what Vita hardware features will be used in the game.

Gravity Rush is one of Vita owners’ most wanted games since its unveiling.  Fans were saddened to hear it wouldn’t be making it into the launch window with the Vita, but now that it’s April we are a mere two months away from its June 12 release.  Using all of the Vita’s hardware features, we play as Kat who must manipulate the world around her to save it from certain destruction.  Using the popular cel-shaded art style for the visuals with a touch of brush effects, Gravity Rush is one beautiful looking game.  Putting the world in your hands with plenty of ways to transform it, it won’t be a surprise to have people gravitating towards this upcoming Vita game.

Sackboy has made quite the name for himself the past couple years with three different LittleBigPlanet installments. Come June 26, you will be able to explore and create in an all new Sackboy world on your Vita.  Using the technology built into the Vita’s front and rear touchscreens and cameras, creating your own unique levels will be easier and will offer more complex scenarios than ever before!  New multiplayer features such as play’n’pass and multi-touch will surely draw a crowd of friends. Get your creative juices flowing as this release is just around the corner!

EA Sports has just recently announced their most sports’ franchise and one of the longest running videogame series ever, Madden NFL 2013, is coming to the Vita on August 28.  I’m not much of an American Football fan, but EA Sports did a fantastic job with FIFA Soccer, so I am eager to see Madden on the Vita.  Hopefully this version will offer connectivity with the PS3 version in some way similar to Sony’s MLB 12: The Show. Stay tuned to Wanderson75.net for more details as they emerge.

So, if you weren’t already impressed with the Vita’s stellar launch line-up, this summer will surely take a toll on your funds and time.  After the winds calmed down with the Vita’s launch, owners were looking in fear as there wasn’t a steady software release in March. Well, it looks like Sony is going to be rewarding our patience with some fantastic gaming and numerous types of games to sink our teeth into.
