Nintendo Makes Huge Announcement About Upcoming Games

Nintendo made a massive announcement today regarding their upcoming games releases for the 3DS and Wii U via Nintendo Direct.

Some of the games set to release this year are a new addition to the Legend of Zelda series, Yoshi’s Island series and, after a 20 year wait, the return of Earthbound to North America which is scheduled to be released on the Virtual Console service for the Wii U.

“Nintendo 3DS and Wii U continue to evolve into some of the best bets in gaming,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “We’ve had an incredible 2013 so far with titles such as Fire Emblem Awakening and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and the rest of 2013 and beyond is even better.”

Here is a list of some of the games that will be released by Nintendo this year:

3DS

Legend of Zelda – A new game will be released this holiday season set in the world of 1992 released The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.  This game is expected to take advantage of the three-dimensional aspect of the 3DS to allow Link to do more than he has in the past.  You’ll be able to download a 3D video of the new game from the Nintendo eShop for your 3DS.

Yoshi’s Island – Yoshi and baby Mario are back in a third installment to the series.  The game is expected to host a whole new selection of moves that will take full advantage of the 3DS features.  More info on the release will be given in the future.

Mario & Luigi:  Dream Team – Taking place on a mysterious island, Mario is challenged to go through the real world and Luigi’s dreams in order to save Princess Peach.  The game is scheduled for release through retailers and the Nintendo eShop on August 11.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D –  The hand-held update of the hit for the Wii will give players 8 new stages to conquer after beating the main game.  With new items and mechanics everyone will enjoy this game after its release to stores and the eShop on May 24.

Wii U News

Earthbound – No, you’re not dreaming and I’m not going to pinch you.  The classic 1995 game is coming to the Wii U Virtual Console this year.

System Update – an update will be released next week which will enhance features and shorten load times when returning to the main menu or switching between apps.

New Features – after the update next week, Nintendo will release the Virtual Console service and Wii U Panorama View for everyone to enjoy.

Game & Wario – Scheduled for release to stores and the eShop on June 23, this game will require players to use the gamepad in unique ways to complete the game.
