Mortal Kombat Coming to the PlayStation Vita In Spring 2012

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that Mortal Kombat will be arriving on the PlayStation Vita in Spring 2012.  Like the PS3 version, the Vita release will have Kratos (of God of War fame)  guest starring in this franchise reboot!

“The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011’s Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform.”

The 2011 comeback of the Klassic franchise has sold over three million units worldwide and has won numerous awards since launch from the Spike TV 2011 Video Game Awards, Official Xbox Magazine and GameTrailers.com and more.  The game will feature the same fatalities and ever popular X-Ray moves.  Warner Bros. says that the Vita will also have features exclusive to the hand-held device with announcements on those coming at a later date.

If you want to get some hands on time with this game a bit early, you can also head on over to one of PlayStation’s Vita Hill Social Clubs around the country.

Capcom Announces Operation Raccoon City Multiplayer Mode

It seems that no game is safe from an online multiplayer component, as Capcom announced today that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will feature a versus mode.  Don’t leave just yet single-player fans, as it looks to change up traditional third-person shooter gameplay.

Players will be able to engage in four-on-four fun, but with an interesting twist.  While fighting the opposing team, players will also have to deal with the constant and unpredictable threat of the zombie horde and its B.O.W.s like the Licker.

There is set to be three game modes: Deathmatch, Biohazard, and Survival.  Deathmatch sees the two teams fighting for most kills, while attempting to avoid death-by-zombie along the way.  Biohazard will be the objective mode, with players battling to bring home samples of the G-virus.  Survival pits both teams in a rescue scenario, where both teams will attempt to survive each other and the undead horde while waiting for a rescue helicopter.  There are limited seats however, so players need to fight hard or risk becoming infected.

The two teams going toe-to-toe are the U.S.S. (Umbrella Secret Service), whose members are Vector, Beltway, Lupo, Four-Eyes, Spectre and Bertha; and the recently announced U.S. Spec Ops containing Tweed, Dee-ay, Harley, Willow, Shona and Party Girl.

For long time fans, a Heroes Mode has also been revealed, where players can play as their favorite Resident Evil characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Hunk, and Jill Valentine.  A trailer showcasing the gametypes and characters can be found here.

While it’s sometimes hard to hear that a great single player game is getting the online multiplayer treatment, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City’s version is looking quite unique.  The game launches on March 20th 2012.  Stay posted for a full review.

Konami Announces Release Date and Features for Snake Eater 3D

A few days ago, Konami announced some key details about Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D,   which is set to come out the 21st of February 2012.

For the readers out there who have yet to experience the beauty of MGS: Snake Eater, let me set the scene.  It’s the 1960s, and the Cold War is on the verge of becoming a blazing hot one.  A soviet rocket scientist is looking to defect to the U.S., and it’s up to the series hero, Snake, to save him.  In typical fashion, the poop hits the fan and Snake is thrust into a plot that could see the end of his beloved country.  Hopefully the game’s story is unaltered, with original voice actors, but we won’t know until release.

Aside from the obvious 3D enhancements, the title will have some new features exclusive to the 3DS version –  The coolest of which has to be the camouflage photography system.  This option allows players to take a picture using the 3DS’s camera, and the game will make a camo pattern for Snake out of the colors in the snapshot.  A camo percent will be given, so players will know how effective their custom garbs will be.

Other features unique to the 3DS will also help to augment gameplay.  With the dual screens, all the action will take place on the top while Snake’s inventory will be displayed on the bottom.  This will allow players to instantly switch weapons or tools, without having to search through menus to find them.  The gyro controls will also be included, for actions such as balancing on narrow ledges.

If you’re like me, and are worried about the downgrade to only one thumbstick, Snake Eater 3D will feature full Circle Pad Pro support. This will allow players to easily target enemies at a distance.

So there you have it, some fresh facts about Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.  The title is looking like it’s well on its way to helping fans relive the joy that was Operation Snake Eater!

Call of Duty: Well Developed or Well Marketed?

Call of Duty is a gaming powerhouse.  An instantly recognized name that attracts millions of gamers with every release, earning accolades from players and critics alike.  It’s arguably the most well-known franchise on the market today, able to attract and keep a diverse and dedicated fanbase.

But is it really as good as all that?  Call of Duty, despite its mammoth popularity, is a franchise that has offered little to the industry as a whole.  Though its sales figures are enviable, other first-person shooters surpass it in terms of gameplay variability, technological progression, and storytelling ability.  Call of Duty is, at its core, a ten-year-old game wrapped in a modern package. 2011 A Year Of Videogames in Review

Having heralded in the New Year with new games, consoles, and adventures to look forward to, Wanderson75.net decided it was high time to look at what this past year brought to the world of gaming and technology.  Even a cursory glance would remind us that 2011 was a bit of a rollercoaster ride, providing a myriad of emotions ranging from excitement and anticipation (announcements of next generation consoles and handhelds) to outrage and disgust (major game services being hacked), a sense of loss (at Steve Jobs death), or even incredulous hilarity (the recent Ocean Marketing debacle).   Here are some of the more noteworthy items, in our most humble opinion: Read On »
