Gamer Living To Take On 24-Hours Of Video Gaming For Charity
Extra Life 2012 kicks off at 8am this Saturday, 10/20. A simple enough premise: Play video games for 24 hours straight to raise money for a Children’s Miracle Network hospital. A worthy cause if there ever was one. It will mark my third year participating in this 24 hour torture session for eyeballs everywhere. It will be a first, though, doing so as part of a team. Unlike past years, where the ill-temper, delirium, and nonsensical profanity-laced tirades brought about by doing most anything for 24 straight hours have been solitary affairs, thankfully hidden from the public, this year they’ll be available for all to see. What’s even more fun? I’m bringing friends too. GamerLiving.net’s own Will Anderson and Blair Hicks will be joining my Ocular Death March for Kids. Read On »

Stringed Orchestra Brings Video Game Classics To Life – Game Music (Album) Review
I was exposed to a wide variety of music as a child, very much in part due to my father’s appreciation for the art as both an aficionado and performer. Many late nights were spent next to my heater vent as I listened to him play the drums in the basement with his 70s and 80s rock cover bands, with my mother wondering why I was so very tired in the morning having ‘gone to bed’ no later than 8PM the previous night. This appreciation for music extended beyond the Rock n’ Roll to Classical music. At the age of 8 he gave me his clarinet, and I joined the school band to learn about the art of brass and woodwind instruments. As I grew up, the 90s Grunge movement stole my attention away from the clarinet, and gave me the desire to learn to play guitar, but I always had an appreciation for the classical, symphonic music that follows me to this day. Just Dance 4’s Toronto Launch Party and Hands-On
With less than a week to go before the American launch of Just Dance 4, Ubisoft showed us Torontonians just how to party on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Dames Making Games: Toronto Women Create Games In Six Weeks
On the evening of August 18, site staff Vicky, Marce, and Jack headed out into the wilds of Toronto to visit Bento Miso, a creative collaborative workspace located just south of Queen Street West (862 Richmond Street West). It was here that the Dames Making Games (DMG) organization was holding a celebration to honour the creations of their ‘Jeuxly’ (pronounced July) initiative, which intended to introduce six women with no history of game development to the development scene. The ultimate objective was for each of the women to have a playable game to offer at this showcase, six weeks after the program launched. Read On »

From Tristram To Torchlight – An Interview With Max Schaefer
This last June, Gamer Living sat down with Blizzard co-founder and co-creator of the Diablo franchise, Max Schaefer. After he and Erich Schaefer left Blizzard in 2005, they teamed up with Fate creator, Travis Baldree, and started up Runic Games in 2008 (after their first studio, Flagship Studios, went defunct). In 2009, they created a new dungeon crawler called, Torchlight. Torchlight quickly became a favourite amongst fans of the genre and spawned a port to the Xbox 360 console seven months later in May 2010. Two years later, the Beta has concluded for the upcoming sequel, Torchlight II, which is slated to be released later this year. Will Anderson and Erik Miller sat down with Mr. Schaefer to talk to him about Torchlight II, as well as his thoughts on Diablo III. Read On »
