The Magic of Pinball – Pinball FX2 Sorcerer’s Lair Table Review

As a gamer, I’ve never been too attached to pinball – frankly because I’m complete rubbish at it. My utter lack of skill has kept me from spending too much time at a table but with The Sorcerer’s Lair, that may change.  I think I may have had a spell cast on me…

The dev team at Zen Studios has once again created a magical pinball table for Pinball FX2 that is not only fun to play, but a wonder to behold. The Sorcerer’s Lair is the table for fantasy and RPG fans alike, with a layout featuring magical runes, gargoyles, secret passageways, and, of course, the ever vigilant sorcerer overseeing the whole field. The absolute splendor of the table fits right in with the other beautiful tables on offer.

The concept of the table sees a boy and a girl, often aided by a spirit named Whisper, trying to escape from the magical lair; fighting off ghosts, running from skeletons, squashing giant spiders, smashing living trees, and discovering secret passageways all in an attempt to flee from the wizard’s castle. The fantasy/RPG setting is one flush with magic and excitement, and the joyous fun of hitting things with a metal ball.

The overall theme is brought home by the audio work, with the soundtrack reminiscent of Harry Potter and the Fable series. This fills the ears with a perfect ambient sound to play to. Small voice work provides situational commentary, giving the characters a bit of life, instead of just being art on the screen. Even the sound effects have been customized to complete the setting, from hardwood floors in a creepy castle, to the sounds of metal on stone. Not many games are such a treat for the ears, and the table delivers on all auditory fronts!

The Sorcerer’s Lair is so much fun that it takes skill level right out of the picture, making even the lowest skilled players full fledged magicians in no time.  Be it the visual bliss, the exceptional audio, or the table’s unique layout and fun mini-games, this new content writes new magic into the spellbook that is Pinball FX2.  Zen Studios prove above and beyond all doubt that they are the Archmage of the pinball world, delivering impressive tables with a simple wave of their wands and an abracadabra!
